Dear Parents and Students,

The Partners and Instructors of Joyful Sounds have been taking steps to provide the students at Friends with a broader exposure to music education this year. It is our hope to continually increase those avenues where a greater selection of offerings can be made available to you and your students.

Music Offerings During the School Day

Currently, we are teaching choir (Ms. Sandy Pietrowicz) to all grades, general music to grades one and two (Mrs. Janis Katsu), and fifth through eight grades (Mr. Bill Jenkins). This year the third and fourth grades are receiving instrumental instruction (Mrs. Janis Katsu). The 30-minute class period for Instrumental Music is creating a few challenges.  A little more instructional time is needed to establish a better foundation in technique and tone production. We will continue to work with Mr. Huxtable as we seek additional scheduling options for this class. Ideas are being tossed around and we will keep you posted as these ideas begin to take shape.

Lesson Options for After School/Study Period

Joyful Sounds is open to offering lessons during scheduled study periods and after school.  I do anticipate more participation by students, as these opportunities are made known.

We are prepared to offer Group Guitar and Piano Lessons, and individual instrumental lessons after school on the Harford Friends campus. Of course you are always welcome to call and schedule lessons at the Forest Hill Studio. We are willing to offer a discounted rate to our students of Friends School if lessons are taken at our location.
