Annual Meeting Minutes
HFS News & Special EventsMinutes as recorded and presented by John De Mey, HFS Class of 2010/2014…
At the 2009 annual meeting of the HFS Alumni Association it was decided to nominate an “Alumnus of the Year.” At the 2010 Alumni Association’s annual breakfast meeting (just prior to graduation) the Alumni Association followed-through on that plan. In order to be the Alumnus of the Year, a student must have represented HFS well since graduating. He/She must also have done something significant and great to help a person or cause, to have been a continuing supporter and contributor of the school, and to have lived his/her life since graduation as a good demonstration of the Quaker values and what he/she learned at Harford Friends School. The idea was approved by the alumni in attendance, and Emma Remsberg, ‘09/’13, was chosen to bear the title that year.
Another proposal was approved: for all HFS alum to contribute back to the school each year for ten years after graduating. All alum would be expected to contribute a small value of five dollars to the school every year that they have been away from HFS. For example, someone who graduated in 2010 would pay $5, someone who graduated a year before that would contribute $10, and alumni from the year before that would supply $15, while giving five dollars each year thereafter for a total of ten years. This would help the school greatly by helping to bridge the gap between the cost of educating students and the amount we charge in tuition. More importantly, it also shows commitment to HFS on part of alumni.
