Role Play
HFS News & Special Events
Role playing helps students understand themselves and others. It helps them see situations from different perspectives. A teacher sets up a scenario; students assume the roles of the characters in that scenario, and act out the scene. This gives students a greater sensitivity to the experiences of others in many different situations. They become sensitive to the different assumptions, values, goals and positions that may be taken by different persons in actual situations. Afterward, they analyze some of the social dynamics that occur.
At HFS we use role playing in our conflict resolution program and to bring the humanities to life. Students participate in enacting situations to explore means of successfully navigating conflict. Likewise, plays and skits provide many learning opportunities.
