Hands-on Learning
HFS News & Special EventsChildren are by nature curious explorers. From the time they are born, they learn by doing, “hands-on.” They learn through in-depth investigations with objects, materials, and ideas, drawing meaning and understanding from their experiences. Observing and testing everything around them, they learn the what, when, how and why of the way things work. Children create plans to test a hypothesis, put the plans into motion using various hands-on materials, see the plans to completion, and then are able to explain the results. In this process they become critical thinkers.
At HFS we believe in capitalizing on these natural intrinsic abilities of our students by providing many “hands-on” opportunities for learning.
Primary grade students in this photo learn math and science with pumpkins and seeds. Our field trips and end of year camping adventures also provide many “hands-on” learning experiences.
