Middle School

HFS News & Special Events

“No other age level (the middle school years) is of more importance to the future of individuals, and, literally to that of society, because these are the years when youngsters crystallize their beliefs about themselves and firm up their self-concepts, their philosophies of life and their values – the things that are the ultimate determinants of their behavior.”
- From Understanding and Appreciating the Wonder Years by John H. Lounsbury

The Middle School curriculum is comprised of English/language arts and social science (Humanities), science and mathematics (Technology), art, computer technology, music, physical/health/life education, and Spanish (Explorations). As a complete mathematics curriculum for grades 6-8, Connected Mathematics Project II (CMP II) is a problem-centered curriculum that uses an inquiry-based instructional model. CMP II helps students to see the connections between mathematics and other disciplines. Upon completion of the CMP II program in eighth grade students will have completed the equivalent of an Algebra I course.
