Science Fair
HFS News & Special Events
Field mice and wolverines, the effects of soil types on plant growth, and building hydrogen fuel cell cars, are just a sample of topics students explored during HFS Science Fairs.
All grades participate. Students in the primary grades (1-2) demonstrate an experiment relevant to their classroom studies, such as how to drop a raw egg down two flights of stairs without it breaking. The intermediate grade (3-5) students research a favorite animal and present their findings via clay sculptures, models, and tri-fold poster
presentations. Sixth and seventh grade projects all take the form of “what are the effects of” one thing on another. Some topics have included weight on ice crushing, dye on the color of absorbing flowers, and chemical melting agents on ice. Eighth grade projects are most involved and have included topics on acid etching, genetics and fruit flies, electricity, trebuchets, and more.
Look for the date of the Science Fair around March 1st on our Home page. We invite you to come and join us as we celebrate our students’ enthusiasm and passion for science.
