Excerpt from the “Fun with Spanish” welcome letter…
Welcome to Fun with Foreign Language! We are excited about working with your child(ren) through Harford Friends School’s 2008 Summer Learning Program, Fun with Spanish . We will have a fun-filled week learning about animals using activities such as music and movement, puppet shows, storytelling, games, basic conversations, and art—all done in Spanish!
Here is a glance at what we will be doing:
Monday, August 4: The first day we will welcome and introduce everyone to each other. We will also start to learn how to say different types of animals in Spanish.
Tuesday, August 5: We will learn the different characteristics and colors of animals. We will focus on household pets.
Wednesday, August 6: We will learn how we care and conserve the animals. We will also keep the kids moving with a gym class, and cool off with some water fun.
Thursday, August 7: We will learn about where the animals live. For lunch, we are asking all participants to bring along blankets and extra snacks that can be shared among fellow participants of the program for a picnic style lunch on the grass (weather permitting).
Friday, August 8: For the last day of the program, we will have a visit from the Humane Society of Harford County. The participants will have an opportunity to interact with many of the animals we studied. We also invite back all families at 1:30pm for a short presentation from the participants and our farewell party.
Each day will also include basic conversation of phrases such as Hola (hello), Buenos días (Good morning), Mi nombre es (My name is), and Adios (good bye).
Program Information:
¡Hola! ¡Vamos a divertirnos! Hello! Let’s have some fun! Join us for a fun-filled week of a Spanish immersion program in which children will learn all about animals. The program will focus on topics such as names, colors, size, habitat, types, characteristics, and care and conservation. This dynamic and interactive program, which is presented in Spanish, will maximize the child’s exposure to the Spanish language. It will also provide a fun environment in which children can develop an interest in learning Spanish, learn vocabulary surrounding the animal theme, and learn basic everyday words and phrases. Through the use of visual, audio, and tactile activities such as puppet shows, music and movement, arts and crafts, and a visit from staff and animals from The Humane Society of Harford County, the camp will engage, interest, and motivate children.
